My first painting sold when I was 6 years old. One of the women’s magazines bought and printed it for a postal note worth ten
Shillings - plagiarism really as I copied a golden retriever head from a chocolate tin but I knew no different in those days - I am
not sure whether such a thing would have mattered in the 1950’s anyway !
I have a Diploma of Art and a Certificate of Art and Craft. I enrolled in an Art and Craft Certificate at O’Halloran Hill College of
Advanced Education in 1980’s and majored in painting. I then studied privately with Dr Jolly Koh, specifically in watercolour as
it was not at all popular within education establishments at that time, and I wanted to investigate the medium. I have since
attended workshops or art classes in various mediums as the urge compelled me. I have taught privately and in community
situations in South Australia, Sweden and Vanuatu.
I am a past treasurer of The Artists Association of South Australia and past vice president and committee member of The Marion
Art Group. I am a board member of the Red House Group based at the Marion Cultural Centre. I am also the Treasurer of the South
Australian Watercolour Society.
I have always resisted the temptation to paint to a successful selling formula as I feel this is just too stifling and I enjoy the challenge
of new ideas and expressions with my painting. I am fortunate that I am able to indulge myself in the frustrations and the passions
of my obsession. My paintings may be found in Europe, Canada, U.S.A., N.Z., Vanuatu, China and Australia. They are held in both
private and corporate collections. I have held solo and participated in shared exhibitions. I enjoy travelling in Australia and overseas, photographing, sketching and painting the wonderful world I am lucky to venture through.
Highlights of my painting days: - 2000 - invited to Vanuatu to hold watercolour workshops and demonstrations
- 2011 - invited to the Australian Watercolour Society to give a demonstration to members.
For so many years - the support of my family and friends.
